//Scarsdale’s Mid-Century Modern Ranch

Rediscovering the roots of a 1950s home—a dialogue between the past and present.

The conversation began with how to update our client’s ranch-style home that was dark, dated, and devoid of character. The goal was to create a beautiful space that reflected their personality and where their family could flourish.

As a modern couple in a traditional home, our challenge was to find a livable compromise between the innate classic, contemporary design, and a modern update. We rested on a design that balanced classic and contemporary, to marry the essence of mid-century design with the allure of modernity.

We incorporated the home’s mid-century origins with timeless elements. Original features like the crown moldings, paned windows, and wood paneling found new life among modern furnishings. Timeless pieces by Charles Eames and Roberto Lazzeroni helped bridge the old with the new.

A symphony of textures, wooden accents, geometric wall patterns, bespoke furniture, and exquisite floor coverings breathed life into the house, giving it a distinct voice. We celebrated the original wood features with new custom wood paneling—a nod to tradition but with modern flair.

A clean palette of white walls and neutral tones with thoughtful pops of color gave the home sensibility with bright and playful touches suitable for adults and children alike. The final result —a beautiful home for this family to thrive.
